Can you get Ti or nice coloured V brake mounting bolts?

No that's what I was saying - my XT cantis are a normal bolt but my XTR V's need that step ?

Post a picture of what you are fitting / want to replace :D

Re:

OK I'll try and get some in the morn, but basically it's Avid SD5's (I think) and at the mo they're held on with whatever is 'standard', M6 presumably?

Re:

Toronto Cycles has a nice selection of Ti hardware, and Tune makes a lot of oddball stuff like canti brake block yokes for Ritchey & Dia Compe cantilevers.

Re:

Years ago I made my own bolts by taking an m6 alloy bolt and turning it on a lathe-the amount you needed to remove was smaller than you'd expect!

Have you tried Pro-bolt? Colored Alu or Ti bolts of various designs.

Oh my lord....just had a little accident

I can see me having to sell one of the other bikes to fund what I now *think* I need for the one in question

Thanks chaps for all the advice and help, certainly learned a fair bit too!

Re:

Avid SD's just use any standard or mishmash bolt you can find. There is nothing to get in the way.

So get what looks good.

There are millions of the things in colour design price on eBay.

The XT and XTR brakes need to step so they don't interfere with the linkage that is very close to the bolt.

On my 970's the shoulder goes down inside the arm - it doesn't aid linkage clearance ? Not sure on the other types though ?
