Can anyone date/ID this Bonty...

As above, 96 Privateer basically a Trek built race minus a few features, still really nice frames to ride. They went to a 1⅛" headtube in 98 which I think was more to do with fork availability than anything else. Santa Cruz built ones stuck with 1". I'm pretty sure the fork is original.

Okay, thanks guys!

@joglo has deffo just confirmed it!

Do you happen to have the full catalog or page you just posted the crop from?

The 1996 catalog on here is different, and states the alternate colour was black with red: http://www.retrobike.co.uk/gallery2/d/2895-2/bontrager1996.pdf

I sort of figured it was ID'd based on the RoboCop match above, but then trying to read up on all the various characteristics I managed to get myself in a muddle of gussets, cable stops and the like!

Appreciate the patient guidance boys.

Race lite
1" head tube
Milled headtube for weight reduction
Gussets on top tube, down tube, seat tube, seatstays
Two piece rear brake mounts
"Sleeved" seat stays up to about 95 then standard seat stays

Race OR 1992ish on wards
As above, but no milling on headtube

Early race OR ( pre introduction of race lite)
Riveted cable guides
Horizontal dropout

Privateer
1" headtube til 1999 model year then 1 1/8"
Gussets on top tube and down tube only. Less pronounced than race or race lite.
Standard ( not removable) rear brake bosses

All have 26.8 seatpost except 1999 privateer which is 27.0

Geometry is common and there is bugger all difference in ride and handling.

Race lite is still the coolest though

@slackboy, yeah, maybe they just reamed it depending on what the tube was originally closer to?
It was one of the reasons I did a full build on my Race rather than just swapping everything from the Privateer, my nice titanium Titec post wouldn't fit! 😂

Everyone has been really helpful, and it's much appreciated.

I've acquired a surplus of 27.0 seat posts for the Team Issue build, so I'm glad to hear there's a potential new home for one of them!
