Retro Newbie
Hello!

I've recently purchased a Cannondale Retro MTB and despite looking into it pretty deep, I can't quite narrow down which frame it is exactly...
Based on the serial number it's from 1992, but I've reviewed the Cannondale catalogs from this time I can't see it matching up to anything listed in the catalog...

Below I've also listed out some of the parts, broken down the serial number, and attached some photos. Please take a look and help me work out the mystery :)

Parts/spec:
  • Decals: "Handmade in USA" on seat tube. "Mtb pro" and "Tioga" decals on top tube.
  • Colour: Dark metallic blue to black gradient (see pics)
  • Front & rear derailleur: Shimano Deore XT
  • Brakes: Shimano Deore XT
  • Brake levers: Shimano servo wave
  • More components are visible in the pictures linked above
Serial number
The serial number is 5-18-1092-6833, which I've worked out means:
  • 5 = Rear dropout spacing
  • 18 inch = Frame Size
  • 03/92 = Production Date
  • 6833 = Sequence Number

Haven't found a nice dark blue Cannondale bike in 1992 catalogs neither, the M700 and M400 look in the catalog blue-ish, but somehow different than yours.
It's at least not a M800 with BotE Geo, but the color looks like the 93-model M800. Maybe it was a replacement frame? Those had been often non-catalog colors.
The components are all obviously randomly selected,
(all +- a year or so)
- LX Brake levers 1997-98
- XT V-Brakes 1996-97
- STX Headset 1994-97
- XT Thumbies 89-92
- RockShox Quadra? without removable crown 94-95

Lots of framesets only were sold, and replacement frames provided. No model marking in these frames at all. And after all, different models shared the exactly same 3.0 frame.
