Well with my material science knowledge I meant to use paintstripper/ nitromors to remove the lugged areas (which are steel). Sparingly paint it on these areas without getting it on the carbon bits...
From the look sof it and if you want to play it safe just lightly sand down the blue paint by hand. Then lacquer or paint each lug black/grey to stop them corroding.
epic steel lug frames always had the carbon kinda blended into the lugs, in terms of appearance. IE the ends of the carbon tube nearest the lug were lightly sprayed to merge the carbon into the painted lug.
.... so yeh, should be possible to lightly sand back (3M scotchbrite is fairly mild) the paint, then spray it back later
Instead of getting my bags for Spain decided to dismantle the Epic first (you need to know your prioroty's....)
So I can annoy you guys with some (sorry) very bad pics I made in a hurry...
also found the frame nr! 8X0332 (1988. nr 332 ?????)
Have a week to think about the options
- Respray all black
- Respray Black with gray lugs
- Put it together as it is
- sell it and let some else think about it
Don't think that I can get back the carbon/hologram thing in good condition
any advice? any Epic/Specialized decalls?..... think I'll pack my bags now and leave tomorrow morning early
