Best tyres for south downs way?

I'm doing it sometime during the 1st week of September depending on childcare. I'm going to try for the whole route from Winchester to Eastbourne wih a possibility of a 'get out' at Brighton.
I'll be dreadfully unprepared with minimal kit for extra giggles

Didn't consider the fundraising aspect. Who are you doing it for?
