Alan Competizione 1972

Re:

Hi, I have the same frame but smaller and had mine dated by ALAN.

Email sent...

Hi there,

Please could you help me identify the age of my Alan frame which i have recently purchased.

The frame & forks are anodised gold with no cable guides or bosses. The lugs are plain coloured aluminium with Alan engraved on the headstock and laurel leaf pattern.

There is a stamp on the seat lug - 55 x 55 which i believe is the frame size?
Under the bottom bracket it has - Brev Alan , made in italy , 245413

The bottom bracket is an English threaded type.

And the reply...

Hello,
your frame is the Alan Super “gold edition” size 55x55 made on mid/late 70s (1975-197:cool:.

Regards
Alberto Falconi / Alan bikes

Good looking machine..gold ones are quite rare.

Interesting :) Did you use the email from their website? Do you have a picture of your bike? Especially from the rear dropout, bottom bracket and the seat lug. It doesn't have any dating on it? What about the crank? Any numbers on the inside of the left crank lever?

Re:

Only got the frame size and number under BB, same as you have.
When I got it was with a mix of Components of which some were used to build it as a light tourer/ winter bike.
Used this email alberfal@tin.it

Re:

Well i'm completely confused now, looking at your link to the Alan guide mine has the long 72 rear dropouts and the plain 72 bottom bracket without any cable guides (same as yours). Your rear dropouts appear to be the 72-74 variety.
Maybe the 75-78 dateing by Alan was only correct to the information I gave which didn't include photos of the frame showing dropouts and BB shell.
Perhaps I should have it dated again with photos.
