97 Raleigh RSP Ti build thread

Hi I have a Raleigh titanium stem for this bike but needs sand blasting or nice gloss black it’s raw welded unfinished finish stem and is 1.1/8th 130mm long with 3 deg low rise

im willing to sell it is titanium Raleigh
As much as I'd like one this is too long. It needs to be 120mm or less.

Its the only size they came in as well lol it mite be 125mm I’ll measure it again tomorrow when Kim in it is so light weigh

Nice.

I've got a Raleigh SPD road frame with the same graphics which therefore dates it to around 97??

Does anyone know what year they started / ended this graphics set?

It all started with great promise...and then got pushed to one side. A career change later and it gets another look in.

Now where were we?

Oh yes.

Overall I've not done anything extraordinary, more ordinary but reliable. Essentially XT 737/8/9 with an XTR m952 rear derailleur. I haven't yet plucked up the courage to add the main decals but the rest is nearly there.

I dallied with an XT m739 spiderless chainset for a while as I like the look of them, although many people don't. This fell by the wayside as something niggled me to try the 5 arm which I've settled on.View attachment 663175

The cockpit is a Bontrager Titec Ti handlebar attached to an FRM World Cup Ti stem. Although it's a bit misleading as the only thing ti about the stem are the bolts. It's quite a few years later than the rest of the bike, but it's a good looking stem and came at the right price. Avid Mag levers, XT m739 shifters - the ones without the position indicators. Never understood the point of 90's vague gear indicators anyway. Ritchey grips and X-lite ti bar end plugs.View attachment 663174
Hope headset, Head Doctor and seatclamp.

The brakes are predictable if you're familiar with any of my other bikes - Avid Arch Rival.

The wheels are a lovely set I got from Marcin @dresdladiory quite a while ago. They belong on a 96 Rocky Mountain Blizzard really, but hey who cares they look great. Wheeltech built: M737 and 8 Parallax hubs, Ritchey Rock rims and DT spokes. They are so nice it seems a shame to use them. The tyres are Ritchey Z Max Evo Comp - or as I know them black wall Megabites.

So it just needs cabling up with the Ice Grey Jagwire Pro kit and the decals adding. With a bit of luck I might get it finished soon...
Just got in from hospital and measured it was 135mm and weight is is 117 grams with stainless bolts be lighter with ti bolts 4736586E-FE32-4430-92BC-2A8CF0F04EA3.jpeg

lovely lovely build - good choice with the FRM stem! The World Cup stem I believe is the same as the earlier ones except for the graphics

I may have a spare FRM top cap for the stem - in silver

This has been quite the read. Thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish. I feel like I’ve been on the roller coaster with you, especially with the decals which do need focus to get it just right. I look forward to reading more. Here’s my Litespeed with the Gil Retro Decal replacements stuck on which I did first time by absolute fluke. An unnerving time to say the least. So gratifying when it goes right though ☺️
