Thanks to snowdonstumpy i'm now the proud owner of a 531 Raleigh Appalachian frameset. Been on the lookout for one of these in non gate size for a while so really pleased to finally have one. As per my other Raleigh builds going to try and stick to as close to original spec as possible and have been gathering parts over the past few weeks.
Here's a few pic's of the frameset as it is at the moment.

Man alive, this takes me back!
Haha, cool isn't it. It's going to get a full re-spray and some nice new decals to give it a new lease of life.
Few more pic's.

Re: 89 Raleigh Appalachian

Pulling up a chair for this for obvious reasons.
These frames are really nice to ride.

Re: 89 Raleigh Appalachian

Cheers for the words of encouragement gents, hope i can do this one justice. got most of the bits sorted for the build now. Just need to see about the re-spray this Friday and need to sort out replacement decals. The wheels are away getting built up at the moment and should have them back in a few weeks. Here's a few pics of the bits i've gathered so far.

Re: 89 Raleigh Appalachian

One thing I found with my team is that a 120mm stem with 5-10 degrees of rise suits these frames better than the swanneck, I tried several stems before I settled on the one on on mine.

I'm trying to stick to the original spec as much as possible so will give it a go with the original stem. I have found though on a couple of the bikes i've retored that i need to push the seat fairly far forward to be comfortable, perhaps if i lose the beer belly i'd be able to get more stretched out

Re: 89 Raleigh Appalachian

Dropped the frameset off for a re-spray on Friday just need to confirm a colour match for the green and pink and then it's good to go. Been having a go at sketching up the decals myself and so far managed to identify all of the different fonts and made a start on tracing the downtube decals, going to take a while to get them all matching exactly though, will post pic's of my efforts once i've finished.
In the mean time here's a few pic's of more of the bits for the build.
