2000 Kona Score Titanium

100% rideable, will still have to sort out pedals, a better seat, those blue bolts and maybe a slightly higher rise stem... 30 mile shakedown ride scheduled for Wednesday.

Tried out a 70mm stem instead of an 85, much better. Chromag seat QR (quite possibly the best seat QR ever) & going to test out some ti green bolts just for fun ... Should have the brake lines redone shortly (procrastinating) followed by the crank swap. Will finally cut the bars soon & figure out wait for the right wheels.... Then done. Love it.

Oddly enough saw another Kona at the brewery after the ride today.

Took some time this morning to sort out the brakes and put some green flare on the score... Finally get to take out the most modern Kona on a few roudy trails today... Going to be a blast! 20220925_114740.jpg

That's cool. Looks like it'll ride well.
I especially like the first part of this thread, started by someone else, the "ooohh, me! Me! Me!", part and the subsequent thread hijack. Brilliant 😂

It does ride very well, I've put over one hundred miles on it so far and I'm quite happy with it. Best of the old and new combined into a bike I'll likely have until I can't ride anymore :)

The thread hijack, normally I'm not a fan, but the story is about the frame, figured it would be best to have it all in one place.

Woah there! An orange painted '99 KK, a very rare beat as well. If you see it again, a few more sneaky snaps and a SN would go down a treat!

Glad to hear the Score is treating you well. From all accounts, it really does match the hype. Nice Process too 👌

Finally found a way to get some decent wheels on this. My Bianchi has had a set of CK disc hubs w/snowflake wheels. Not a very sensible choice front and rear, but that's the way I got them, ave they're still going strong after who knows how many years.

Found a non disc set for the Bianchi, so that's sorted again.

Had a few struggles along the way. Apparently last time I serviced the rear hub bearings I didn't confirm the snap ring was seated properly, so that had to be purchased and replaced, easy enough.

Next apparently the high flange hubs interfere a bit with certain cassettes. XT M750 spider was hitting the spokes. Luckily I had a spare SRAM 990 hanging from the "wall of cool bike stuff". So that's working.

I did a quick ring drive clean and lube on the CK hub, but there's a bit of drag when coasting, honestly it was that way on the Bianchi. So I think next step is full tear down, which will be new and exciting, luckily my neighbor has the tool required, but he never done it either.

Regardless, just a few quick sprints up and down the road and the bike felt great. I should have weighed the previous wheels, but apparently it was rather heavy.... I mean you'd think a wheel called the Ritchey Girder would be lighter, right?

Also have been doing a bit more research on my hunt for a Shiver SC. The Marathon S has an A-C of approx 480mm

Shiver SC 2002-2003 120mm w/ETA A2C 510mm ETA on approx 485
Shiver SC 2004-2005 100mm w/out ETA A2C of 485mm

Plus side of the 02-03 + alloy steer tube, nice & firm with ETA on

Plus side of the 04-05 is going to sag like the Marathon S giving an even lower front end when riding.
Downside, Steel steer tube = heavier.

Was hoping to get out on the bike but it's a late fire season & the air is disgusting. 20221115_143122.jpg

Got around to installing the Raceface Next LP's & the Raceface Signature Isis Ti BB.... definitely the better look. Have put a good couple hundred miles on the pavement so far. Loving it, the tires are a little slower than I'd like, and the seat... well it's no WTB Ti Volt, and the Snowflake rear wheel was a bad choice. The spokes make a racket.... But I love it! So solid and stable.
