1989 Orange Clockwork yellow/white. Update 26/11/2014.

Re: 1989 Orange Clockwork yellow/white. Update 17/12/13.

I've got a set of wheels for it but the rear doesn't seem to want to fit. When lined up it looks like it should but it just doesn't want to sit in the drop-outs. Any one know what's up with it?

Sorry for such an obvious suggestion, but 130 spacing?

That's a big change, polish can make a complete difference. I would go for Deore, agree with you it's a better fit.

Think you're right but for some reason, even though I'm quite good at fixing every other aspect of a bike, hubs and spacing have always blown my mind. It looks like it should fit so my brain can't see past that.

Will the Clockwork be 130 or the wheels (Off a 1992 GT)? Can I easily adjust the hubs to fit or do I need different wheels? I really am useless when it comes to hubs.

Harry- With a bit of luck you can have a spin next year at some point.

Troje- Agreed I think. I'll have to find another project for the DX!! Oh, and it's not polished yet, just degreased and scrubbed so it should come up better still.

I'm certainly no expert but I'll measure mine tomorrow. I can't recall why but I had an inkling my 1989 might have been 130. If the frame is 130, a more usual 135 axel hub would be 2.5mm too wide each side, and if fitted to one dropout wouldn't quite slot into the other by 5mm. I've heard that steel frames can be persuaded to fit...

That defo sounds like the problem. My old Aluminium Elite was a bugger to get the rear wheel in so I bet that was the same. I'll get some 130 wheels then.

Any one want some 135 wheels, DX hubs on Ritchie Vantage Expert rims?

Re: 1989 Orange Clockwork yellow/white. Update 17/12/13.

In other news I'm coming back round to the idea of collecting a Clockwork from each era having not sold the 2007 frame. I'm thinking a 1992/3 (will have to be in ace condition though as it'll replace the Prestige if I ever find one good enough), a 1998/9 and then building up the 2007. Not sure about a C16, we'll see. That's a group I'd like to line up and check out all together. :xmas-cool:

I think some 130 OLN DX hubs cropped up in the For Sale section this morning...
