Show us your 700C ATB / MTB / Hybrid

Specialized CrossRoasd Cruz:
Bought this beginning of 2022 for peanuts. With its Chromoly main triangle, Shimano M100 drive & Rapid fire shifters! Lowest of the line.
Intended for a winter Trekking/Touring bike. Still at the back of the garage awaiting some attention, maybe this year eh!

The marketing term 'Hybrid' is sensible and accurate for what alot of them are. A hybrid mix of mtb/atb and cross bikes. I guess the word is too sensible which is why it got dropped. Hybrid doesn't evoke images of teens sending it down gnarrly black runs.
Now the same bikes are called 'gravel' and alot of people who turned their noses up at hybrids and mocked them as being for pensioners to potter up and down canal paths, or take on french vineyard tours with a whole handlebar mounted array of satnav devices, are shelling out good money for the modern equivalent.
Apart from the awful bso shite that came out of catalogues alot of them were good and did a job well. The mass produced aluminium frames weren't too shabby and if you replaced the heavy basic equipment, they were often fitted with, you had a very decent bike.
There must be a whole ton of barely used hybrids languishing in the more well-to-do housing estates, around the uk, and could be had for little or no money. Apart from the commuters alot of hybrid purchases were not made by people who were ever going to pile on the miles.

Very true a lot of this. Remember well going to a bike shop many years ago looking for a MTB - the selection was DH monster machines and MTBs had evolved into something not suitable for me. The sales staff directed my to Hybrids - the majority were utter toss with generic tat, and the very few with a Tiagra level gruppo were well over priced.

I ended up buying a well used Crescent Ehwaz (not retro, about 2000) for utter peanuts, stripping it down to polished AL, and put a top mix of Ultegra, XT, FSA, 33C CX semi-slicks etc. Did one of my all time favorite rides on it - 250 km in one day about 70% off-road and performed flawlessly and could hold it's own with a group of roadies no problem. Fully agree that there must be lot's still out there and cheap. Hybrid also suggests not good at anything, and this is not at all in line with marketing today to sell something - unlike "The Best Gravel Bike" BS we have rammed down our throats.

Dude! What wheel and tire combo is this?
Its a full XTR M900 build. The wheels are Mavic + XTR M900 hubs + Challenge skinwall wheels. I think they are Challenge "Grifo" or "Baby Limus" Clincher. Cant remember.

Yes…yes… that is a sweet setup, indeed. Thank you very much for sharing.

This is my 91 Miyata Triplecross. I bought this as a frame and built it mostly with bits out of my parts bin/stripped off an old Kuwahara I grabbed from the transfer station as an attempt at a budget gravel bike. Since that original build I bought a short reach nitto stem, swapped the tektro 720's for some black LX early 90's cantis and replaced the wheels with some non-disc HPlus Son 105/Archetype wheels (not in this photo). I ride it on mixed asphalt / hero gravel rides mostly.
