Anyone on here know if a mid 90s bonty race would have asymetric chainstays??

Asymmetric in what way? Mine's from about '92, and doesn't.

I can ask KB for you if you like.

When looking at the stays from below the non-drive stay appears almost perfectly straight throughout it's length. The drive side stay appear slightly shaped, possibly to give a little more crank clearance (ie as intended), possibly because it's had a big whack as shown by a ding..

post a pic of your underbelly and ill reciprocate. From memory they are different for chainset clearance but not asym in the sense of different hub config / spacing (lile a bradbury)

With that in mind and looking at the bonty thread on mtbr vrc I reckon the chainstay is bent. Frame could well turn into a chipshop special

Do you mean the slight flattening just behind the bottom bracket or the bit that looks like a dent further back?
