Zaskar Questions..

Old School Hero
I've acquired this from eBay for a reasonable sum.

Is it a Zaskar? (has a the flat top-tube cap and a 6061 sticker!)

Where should the serial number be? (it doesnt appear to be on the dropouts)

Anyone want to guess the age? The paintwork looks original, but I cant find another example of it!

It's a singlespeed at the moment, but I plan on correcting that mistake.

By decals I would say it's a 98 Zaskar LE, however this one doesn't have machined dropouts (or has it? picture isn't very clear) and non integrated seat clamp so I suspect transfers been applied to frame at some point. Serial number should tell us truth, try BB area? does frame has apadter or factory disc mount?

It's a disc adapter, not factory disc mount.

I'll take a look at the dropouts again tonight - what's significant about them being machined?

They're certainly stamped GT on the dropouts but I couldnt for the life of me find a serial number there, unless it's hidden under the disc adapter!?

I thought they were aftermarket decals because the 'zaskar le' seems odd stuck in the middle of the toptube - usually off centre isnt it?

Stew, I'll hopefully be stripping the bike down at the weekend and send you a message then re the tensioner. I'm not sure about the forks yet and will inspect them later. I think I'll be ditching the Formula discs in favour of some V's, and plan getting a Kore stem and seatpost. Rear wheel looks like it is a singlespeed-specific Formula one so that'll have to go to!

My 1998 zaskar (not le) had same decals and they were further towards the headtube. It also definately had serial number on the dropouts, and 6061 stamped in the other dropout.

Has it got a flat cap on the top tube end?

Both zaskar and zaskar le in 1998 had integrated seatclamp as mentioned above so think if it is a zaskar then its an earlier one.

I'm almost certain that what it is :)

Have a look on to Zaskar 98 catalogue there's a significant difference, older Zaskar/Zaskar LE had flat non drilled dropouts in opposite to end of 90's ones.

That'd be cool, I'm just building a disc'd single speeder.
Might have a couple of wheels to swap too if it goes that way.

Stew, hopefully get some deal done on some wheels too then..

Merck I'd say it was darker, more of an ink blue than electric blue. If its been resprayed chances that will be why I'm struggling to find the serial numbers!
