Yeti ARC 1991 build list?

I have a new exciting long term build project ( 19" Yeti Arc in grey blue) and just thought I'd post on here to see how people would build this? I have a good idea and can consult period photos but want to keep it as age specific as poss.

Have some parts already (Grafton brakes) but the typical queries I have are things like; Aheadset or threaded, Manitou 1 or 2, ATAC, Sycnros or Ringle, wheelset and also XT or M900.

What would be the ideal build? Baring in mind also it doesn't need to be a rider as I use the 29ers for that. Think it would be fun to hear what people would do with it.

Depends on how you want to build it. If period correct, the XTR M900 would be a year in the future and not released yet.

Dang it! Correct. It was indeed 1991 already.

To my defence ... I always saved 1992 as the 1st year of M900 in my mind and the google results are all over the place...

Very sure, the pro riders got the very very first sets.

What's been normal in mtb since the very start.. Upgrading... so even a non pro buying a yeti arc in 91, it,d be totally acceptable to have 92 XTR on it.

Personally I wouldn't put syncros on it. Purely ringle/ grafton/ cook bros kinda build... admittedly that stuff has shot up in value since we started collecting 25ish years ago.. ye olde retro emails.. time flies huh!

Of course. I was just talking about the kinda "official" release date of the M900. Nothing more.

Having built a few of these up back in the day... (for clients, never myself)

- Stem - ATAC
- Seatpost - Ringle, American Classic or Syncros
- Cranks - Cook Bros or Bullseye
- Shock - Manitou (the newest model we could get at the time)
- Headset - Chris King
- Hubs - Ringle, American Classic, Bullseye
- Handlebar - Answer Hyperlite
- Rims - Mavic 231 with alloy nipples (brass is stronger)
- Balance of groupo - Suntour Pro or XT
- Brake Booster - Brodie
- Barends - Onza or Control Stix (short ones)

That seemed to be the way we used to build them. And with the money, one could easily hit sub 24 pounds on a build.Hell we did one small frame build for a female rider privateer racer that came in just under 22 pounds.

They also seemed to be purchased by doctors, lawyers or those with huge disposable income.

Had a heart surgeon who spent close to ten grand Canadian bring his back two afters after pick up because he forgot it was mounted to the roof of his Jaguar and proceeded to drive into his garage with it, bending the hell out of the frame and parts. That was sad.
