XTR M900 vs M900i

There is not much I can find written in this. What exactly is the difference? The "i" is more durable because of the rivets? M900i is compatible with first gen 1992 XTR?

How come NOS M900 sells for more than M900i?

Thanks

Will

Re:

I think the types were P & Q - never heard of I unless you're talking about HG (Hyperglide) and the later IG stuff.....

Try googling CS M900 and you'll see

Re:

I is the Interactive upgrade to the M900 it gained down shifting Ramos and profiling, most noticeable by the err profiling on the rear.

M737 gain the same thing.

7 speed also did and they have the IGxx naming and use wider Gog's, 8sp didn't as far as I know for some reason. Anyway its used on all setups since.

900 (normal, but rivited not bolted version)

But see the rear ramps in the first picture. M900-I was the same, 737 just easier to find with a nice picture.

Ignore the ring on the M737, I think that was added later as the normal versions like the M900 pictured would get damaged on normal freehub bodies (not the M737/900 ones with the Alu ring protection) and of course 737 was used with lower grade hubs by people. In fact I think it pretty much replaced the M900 when it came out a) the M900 fell apart after a few miles, b) the silver colour shed mud easier and looked cleaner, c) was in 11-xx tooth and not the 12-xx tooth. So why pay more for the same thing that was heavier and less durable and didn't have the 11 tooth.

Anyway the I version will have been around the M910 era into the M950's

Re:

Thanks FluffyChicken,

That's quite helpfull. The M900i has the same ramps as your first picture plus the coggs were rivited vs bolted. Better shifting and more durable.

The choice would be 900i over 900 if you had a choice. Thanks
