Thanks all for your help. And to Ian for checking the stock room!

I like the bike, it cost me little and I am "busy" with hospitals and stuff (recurrent C) so I shall take the easy way out and buy new and take it all to nearby Ridewise charity mechanic. My time is under more pressure than my pocket!

Th'internet tells me SLX M7100 an ideal substitute and 34 quid new on ebay seems a good price:

Shimano Left Complete Brake Lever BL-M7100 SLX

And the current left shifter is an SLX. If necessary a 2nd hand separate clamp shifter is cheap as chips.
