XT M785 Brake Levers

Unfortunately this era of Shimano brakes are very prone to leaks to the point where plenty of people refuse to buy them anymore, even though they're great when they work. Probably why you can't find spares tbh and also why I'd be reluctant to buy secondhand unless it was from a trusted source (like ishaw ;) ).

Functionally they're very similar to SLX or Deore which can usually be found new for around £50 for the full brake so that's the way I'd be going.

^ thank you, brocklander. Happily go new if necessary, my only concern is how to keep the shifters and I don't yet understand how my current ones combine with brake levers!
Guess have to keep "learning", a painful and time consuming process at my age!
I should not have strayed into this century......

Know what you mean about shifter compatibility and who knows why Shimano keep changing the I-spec design but the info is out there and compatible brakes will still be available. Pretty sure you can buy adaptors too?

I can't say for sure but there's not much difference between the models so I'd assume it'd work? I had M785's, have more recent XT and have also had Deore and SLX in the last ten years and can say they all seem pretty similar.

I managed to find the brake I knew I had, but it's a right hand lever I'm afraid.

I may have a couple of Deore levers, need to check I have both left and right, but should have. They were retired as I replaced the brakes due to a suspected leaky calliper (micro-leak.i heard it referred to), which meant the brakes were quite squeaky despite working and I forgot which calliper it was, hence the set stashed away.
