Exactly, amazing to ride. Lots of people build incredible retro rigs and we never hear about ‘the ride’. What stands out, what lets the ride down etc. Its THE most important thing. If it doesnt have telepathic handling and make you feel safe in ‘unexpected hairy situations’, leaving you constantly thinking about it after you walk away, one more glance over the shoulder....its not special enough.

Not everyone builds/restores bikes to ride, some build to preserve :)

Re: Parts

I have these bits i was thinking of using but not sure will have a play

Good point...otherwise we would never remember some of the evolutionary dead end bike designs of the 90s.

Im getting a bad yearning for an early Yo in Grello now....

The Grafton will obviously look the part against the frame, but the black XT would suit it too, must be hard faced with these dilemma's

Re:

The prob with wall art bikes is they get covered in dust. I hope this gets covered in muck instead.

some progress

Fitted a salsa stem and a green true temper bar but its a bit too faded ,ok for now but might change to a black one with green grips or maybe a new green bar also popped on some xt m734 canti,s

Re: Nearly there

Ok i decided to change a few things around so i changed the nuke proof wheel set to a black xt set with black Ritchey rims that has done about 50 miles also changed the xtr m900 shifters to classic xt thumbies and some as good as nos gravity research brake levers
So just waiting for the xt rear and front mech to arrive shortly then cacle it up and put a chain on

Looking great, won’t be long then and she’ll be ready to ride :)

Have you got a steerer mounted brake hanger for the cantis? I searched for a nice 1” quilled Salsa stem with roller for ages, had to settle with an Odyssey Pro.

Re:

Yes got a couple of hangers to try out i did think about using this Ringle stem with the internal roller but it was just a bit too bulky
