Ok,

I'm delving into some modern stuff, and I want a complete set-up.

As I'm new to this, I'm not sure if I want hydraulic or mechanical calipers (the only hydraulic set I had before I hated - Magura Juies) but happy to consider everything..

I want:

Wheels (standard QR, not 20mm, and 9sp not SS) - budget up to £150
rotors/calipers/levers - budget upto £120

and like I say I want the whole lot, so that I can just bolt them on and go riding. Would prefer the whole lot off one person, but obviously beggars can't be choosers..

Hit me with it then, please, fellas 8)

Cheers.

BB7's are on the shortlist, but tell me, can you run them with conventional V'brake levers?

Steve

No problem at all, I actually have some BB7 Road calipers on my InBred 29er, so am using road (6500 Ultegra) STIs, but I know of other people that have the standard ones using Shimano, Avid and SRAM (IIRC) levers.

The only advantage using the Avid levers has is that the cable adjustment is built in, but, for talking to people who use them, the levers themselves are completely useless and break in no time, so most use Shimano levers/STIs.

Think I could get you a pair of BB5's plus Avid levers from my local bike shop for a pretty good price if they'd be any good?

The people I know who have tried 5's and 7's have said it is worth the extra £10 or so an end for the 7's. Apparently the pads last longer, they are easier to set up and stop you better.
