I've got a friend who's looking for a bike so she can accompany her young son and daughter on rides around forest fire roads etc.

Her Budget is limited at £50, maybe a little more at a push, and she's 5ft 2 tall.

Does anybody have either a bike going cheap, or parts that they'd like to offer at a very, very good price, which I could use to build a bike within her budget?

I know it's a big ask at this limited budget, but she deserves a bit of luck and I thought I'd see what the generous folks of RB could come up with. I don't want her buying a second hand piece of junk, which weighs a ton and which is decked out with plastic brakes etc. You know the sort of thing I mean.

be happy to help with the servicing type parts.

cables, grease, brake blocks etc.

i do have a large ish 24" wheel peugeot or a 19" townsend estay if they are any good?

Cheers matey, that's appreciated. I think at 5ft 2 inches those bikes would be too big for her. I have grease and oil etc. But if we need to build one, cheap brake cables etc will always be welcome.

the peugeot may be ok as its about 15" frame with 24" wheels. it would be just the cost of postage :D

would need a good service and some new tyres tubes and bits.

I'm wondering if 26" would be better to future proof the bike, certainly for when her son gets older and more adventurous? However I don't want people to think I'm being picky and would love to get more information on the bike please. Thanks.

I'll drop you a PM with my email addy.

I have some V brakes, some combined shifters/brake units, a handlebar (not great) and an Acera front mech you're welcome to. I'll cover postage.

That would be awesome if the other bits come together, thank you.

Speaking with Jamma and considering another friend of the same stature, I think a 16" frame is needed. We decided that the 15" framed, 24" wheeled bike mentioned above wasn't going to be large enough.

Recon I can get a cheap no name alu 16" frame for you Nick. Maybe £15? Can chuck in a load of other bits too, bars, stem, rear mech, might have a shifter and some other bits (tyres)? Think I have some rigid forks too. So it'd be wheels really that you'd need and maybe some other small bits.

Just thought Nick, there is a 2nd hand Specialized Hardrock ladies at the shop I could get for you within budget. It's small, but 26" wheels, so should be the right size. Suspension forks on it. Think it's all black. Will need a service, but I can sort that for you :)

Either would be awesome mate, but obviously a full bike is beneficial. I would call you but I still have no voice from this bloody cough/flu thing that I can't shake, I can hardly make myself understood! Do you think you can sort a couple of pics for her (not that it should matter)?
