wide tyre advice.

I dusted my bike off yesterday after not really using it for about 6-8 years. Everything looks to be in great condition as I kept it in the house, forks perhaps could do with a service. But the tyre s are all splitting :( I currently have some Hutchinson Jumbos 2.45

I always fancied getting some 3.0 Nokian Gazzaloddi's but never did, now I see you can't get them anymore :( . After a bit of searching I've found these Michelin Tribes DH32 (2.8)

Does anyone know of anything better or know of any nokian 3.0 old stock? If I could get some i'd ditch my HS33's and get some discs.

£55 is a bit steep for 1 used tyre but I've made an offer. I can test it will fit the frame and fork before locating another. Thanks for the link.

I've got 99 Bomber Z1's. I know these tyres won't fit with the standard brace but I bought a 3.0 tyre specific brace to fit Z1's from a trade show about 9 or 10 years back, I've had it fitted ever since because it looks so nice, a big fat gold anodised thing :) The CNC'ing is a bit rough on it when you look up close, not sure it ever went into production (I'll take a pic if anyones interested).

Also, I'm currently running Magura HS33 (the old Tomac ones) and I know the standard booster/ brace won't fit these tyres (not even sure it will fit with the brakes at all :? ) Does anyone know of any aftermarket HS33 booseters that give more clearance?

as far as i'm aware the evo brace is the biggest you can get (someone correct me if i'm wrong) and it only takes a 2.5 tyre .

unless theres a company that does cnc items to take larger tyres but they'd be silly money i'd imagne 8)

good luck with the tyre on ebay ..... :D :D :D

I won it, best offer of £35 accepted.

I'll have a search around for a booster.

The Gazzaloddi arrived yesterday. It looks hardly used apart from some dirt on it (my first retro bike forum assisted purchase, first of many)

I've fitted it to the front for now and the clearence is fine. I'll swap it on to the back and see if it fits before trying to track down another.

I'm worried it's not going to fit though, I'm running Magura rim brakes front and back and on the back I have adjustable brake bosses but I'm not sure I'm going to be able to adjust the integral boss/booster high enough and still be able to run rim brakes (I may have to take a picture to expain this better).

May have to splash out on some discs..

what frame is it ?

im sure you will only get a 2.6 in there

It came from a rep's garage when I worked in a bike shop and had no stickers but I believe it is a Muddyfox Dual frame, here's a pic of one from google image (Not mine, mine is red). It was just a sample he had before the bike was released, I'm not sure they actually sold them in red. Only ever seen blue ones. I recall the rrp was only £350 for the frame but I think it's a pretty nice looking (I paid £50 anyway).

I'm at work now and i'm out tonight but i'll post up some pics tomorrow when i've tried to get the tyre on the back

i remember those . a team rider lived local and had one , quite possibly in both red and blue . you might just be able to get away with

I got the tyre and found the time to try it on the front and the back. It does fit on both but the normal magura booster isnt going to fit (which I knew anyway). I've purchased an evo II booster just to see if it fits, should be arrive soon. (Also have some new wheels and discs in the pipeline)

Front: lots of clearance..

Rear: Seat stays have lots of clearance without the brakes/ adjustable bosses..(now before anyone points out, I realise the tyre is on the wrong way round :) )

Rear Brakes etc just so you can see what I'm talking about. Not finished messing with the adjustment to see weather I can use rim brakes at all on the back..

However the clearance is very minimal near the chainstays stays
(Kind of difficult to show in the photo so I took a few)

In order to get a good fit I had to move the axle furhter back, is this actually okay to do though?? I don't actually know a great deal about horizontal drop outs..

I'm not suprised they stopped making these tyres
