Build the Lobster, keep both. You can never have too many bikes....

8)

Have you seen how many bikes he has already?!!

Well update time I now have another  I have kept the Ridgeback but its minus the wheels as I put them on the Lobster
I had to covert the rear to 8speed and re-dish it apart from that had no major trauma's

I had considered building it up like this but I broke my spoke shave

In the end i went for a LX set up as I had the Mechs in parts bin I splashed out on the brakes the Brifters Aheadset, new cables, chain and cassette

Had to make a few bits to get it working, like the cable stop for the Forks (could do with a bit of paint) and a pulley for the front mech (made up of a large spacer and front part of a chain ring bolt) as I only had a bottom pull

All the other bits came from the parts bin
Seat post BBB
Stem KORE
Bars Club Roost
Crank set Power pro
Peddals LX 570
Tyres from Rebike S/H Rear Duro Trooper Front Duro Striker
Rims Ritchey Vantage Comps on XT hubs

Good use of other parts there to get things working. Nothing like making your own. If I were you thou I would get something a bit more substantial for that canti hanger!

Cheers Leigh that little bracket is quite a sturdy piece as it goes it used to be part of a roof rack clamping bracket I've just bent it over with the help of the vice and a hammer. It only deflects a mm and thats not on the bend I put it down to the position on the forks, I will be keeping my eye out for something more suitable

I guess its time to revive the Ridgeback I've got it all stripped down and will be off to the powder coaters soon.
I decided to upgrade the bike to a DX spec. I had looked at the XT version but as I won't have to change the forks it will keep the cost fairly low. I'm not sure how close I will get to the original 703DX specs and think that I will have to make compromises along the way (unless someone can fulfil my post in the wanted ads) I will also be taking the original bars and stem with me to the powder coaters to be done at the same time, the bars in black and the stem colour coordinated with the frame.

Then I'll be contacting Gil_m about decals

So were the bars red/pink?

The bars were at one time same colour as the Decals lilac
