which frame for a black first generation Dura Ace group ?

Re: which frame for a black first generation Dura Ace group

You might already know this, but you can look at all old Koga Miyata brochures to see which frames were fitted with first gen DA on their site here: http://www.koga.com/koga/mijn-koga/oude ... es//#older

I'd edge towards a Batavus for first gen Dura Ace personally.

This picture of a Batavus Professional sporting DA allegedly was taken in 1974/5 (that is one sexy stem by the way):

This set on flickr shows a slightly later '77 model (with suspiciously Gazelle Champion Mondial like details) with black DA: http://www.flickr.com/photos/41284201@N ... 419625486/

thanks for the link to the koga catalogs I did not know yet

the pro luxe from 76 sports the Dura Ace kit but strangely enough , the brake calipers were not black on this model contrary to the crankset, the crane rear der and the shifters which were.
my group sports also the silver hubs rather than the black which are really rare apparently

Just out of curiosity which rear mech are you using for thr 1st Gen Black Build?

Shaun

that's the one

I have got the black calipers, black front mech, black headset, black shifters, silver cranks with black inside and black rings, and the bottom bracket
unfortunately I don't have the black levers ( I have never seen any in real - only pics) so mine are silver and I have got silver hubs with super champion rims (I wonder if I may change the tubular rims to clinchers a bit more practical   )
I have just passed on black hubs on ebay last week which were too expensive for me :?

here is the velobase pics for most components of the group

Nice :) The first Gen stuff came with the Black Crane and not a Black Dura-Ace :D

I never came across any black levers ever, only the drilled (not slotted) silver. The E-Bay hubs are £299 IIRC and way above my league...

My Avatar has my 1st gen black calipers just visible...

I think that possibly even the DA adverts and catalogues showed silver brake levers. I suppose that you could get some silver ones anodised black and really confuse future collectors........................

Re: which frame for a black first generation Dura Ace group

True Old Ned... That's got me thinking, I have about 5 sets of 1st Gen brakes which include a pretty scratched up set of levers, I was going to polish them but now thinking about sending them to Intrincycle and have them Anodised black. Retrobike Time Team will be in knots :D

Back on OP's thread, you have to be careful with frame colour choice for black bits, my favourite is Giro D'Italia pink ..........

Shaun,

I have a set of DA levers and i have decided not to touch them as i don't think i can take them apart to polish. Am i missing something?

Is there a grub screw or similar to hold the pivot 'pin' in place?

Or does the lever clamp bolt pass through the pivot?

Or am I getting mixed up with some other levers?!

I'll have a look at mine tomorrow (if I remember!)

Re: which frame for a black first generation Dura Ace group

No sign of any helpful screws - the story of my life!!! LOL

I may have missed them though, i am trying to get an appointment to get my eyes checked right now!
