i think the reason we don't see too many treks (giants and scotts) is because we don't deem them rare enough, so they don't get saved from the bin in the same way as other brands, i know aleast 3 guys who ride explosif's that most would have binned but instead have been re-aligned and repainted.
back in the day when 2nd level imports brought kona to us they only sold about 2000 to 2500 kona's a year so they were relatively rare even when they were knew but trek and giant etc were mass market chucking out thousands of bikes! but also their early bikes weren't nessacerily as nice as kona's etc so therefore weren't as desirable then or now.
sounds like snobbery but anyone is always gonna want the restore the good stuff or the stuff they aspired to not the basic stuff, and personally i never aspired to having a trek, giant or scott.
that's not to say they didn't produce good/nice bikes they just weren't my bag!
although i have owned in my time 2 giant atx's, an nrs, 2 ac's, a vt, an mcr, tcr, tcr carbon, dh team. mainly because i believe in ride what you sell because it gives you an informed opinion of the bike your trying to sell and if a customer knows you ride one they trust you more as a salesman on the basis, "well it must be good if he rides one!"
p.s my best mate worked for giant at that point aswell!
