Very interesting.
I want to learn how to program little microprocessors like the Arduino, so am scheming out a plan for a fancy wheel truing jig.
Using a couple of sensors I will continuously measure the side to side runout of the rim and the ovality. Combining that with an encoder or a proximity sensor to count spokes, I will then be able to create a file which states the error at any point. Hopefully I will end up with a table suggesting what spokes need adjusting to get a perfectly true rim.
It's all just a learning exercise for a bit of fun. Because I won't be taking spoke tension into account, I doubt it will actually help me true wheels better than doing it by feel.
