What's your favourite movie of all time

why has no one mentioned Heat? has 2 of the best names in the industry in it.
technically has everything you want in a film.
superbly shot - every frame is an awesome picture,
great moody soundtrack,
some 'deep' moments
some effing awesome action (one of the best shoot outs ever)
great script.
in theory, you shouldn't need to watch any other film. ever.
but if you do, watch Repoman or They Live.

I think that's the thing about Heat - good story, great script, a stellar cast, strong performances, does what it says on the tin. That's the thing, though, I watched the film, expecting a great film and it delivered - but there were no surprises, no above-and-beyond aspects - it fulfilled it's potential - which was no mean feat - but it didn't exceed it's potential, perhaps that's why it doesn't get the sort of adulation that some expect.

They Live is a perfect example of a film that exceeded it's potential, which - I suspect - is why has something of a minor cult following.

Different strokes and all that, but the remake is awful. The original is pure class. It's even got Benny Hill in it.

5) American Werewolf In London

There was something about Donnie Darko, even allowing for the bandwagon.

The original Italian Job is to blame for my life long obsession with Miuras.

My favourite ever film has to be A Fistfull Of Dynamite, aka Duck You Sucker!

It makes me cry, it makes me deliriously happy. James Coburn is one of the greatest actors I have watched. His easy, laconic style combines machismo with pathos, he hints at depths very few actors can convey for me. Rod Steiger kicks it out of the park too.

Right up there are The Deer Hunter, Bring Me The Head Of Alfredo Garcia, Pat Garret And Billy The Kid and Cross Of Iron.

Most of Scorcesse's canon is worthy of note, particularly the earlier years.

Goodfellas and Taxi Driver are stand out genius for me. Raging Bull and Casino are not far from that high watermark.

The King Of Comedy is average for Scorcesse, but way up there in general terms.

Films are like bikes, you have to take them in context.

There is no way to really pin down one film that will work over all the others, it really depends on what your need is at the time, the spiritual terrain you are covering.
