We'll have to agree to disagree then, in my own history, and I am sure many others, I have ridden that kind of stuff on my hardtails (as well as full bore DH bikes) both with recreation and with racing.

i see now, we had s similar thing BITD we called them the Dolly Partons and always rode them fully rigged

A buddy of mine was due to ride this. He'd figured that his IH Sunday was a touch over the top so planned to ride it on his knackered Stumpy with seized forks and 3 spokes missing.
