What is you favorite vintage MTB component?

Tioga T-Bone quill stem. Understated classic peice of design where form and function combine in simple perfection. Yes, I have been drinking.

The 7/8 speed Sachs/Sedis/Sram ( all of the above ) chain. A tiny bit thicker, lasts a shed load longer than modern skinny crap.

A chain? A chain? I wasn't expecting to see a chain..

I'm gonna have to go with Ringle H20, M900 cranks, Chris King!

M737 SPD's do it for me. As someone said earlier, they were spot on from their first issue. (still have 2 pairs in use!)

The other stand out for me was the first XT STI shifter that had the downshift under the index finger (rather than the first generation double thumb press verion). Allowed you to change gear in places could hadn't before - eg in the air when combined with SPD pedals. 8)

gotta be RD910

@Klasse,
yep. as my club's grease monkey and retro banner holder I'd say it's the heart of retro. 8 got rid of the horrid 15-18 tooth cog jump on seven blocks while retaining the original chain thickness and ease of set up and durability. Then they all went silly and added more cogs ( ...and weight...and unreliability..and wear+tear ).

Your tastes by the way are impeccable.
