spotted this frame at my lbs lately

never seen such a cinelli with curved seatpost tube and slightly curved toptube

have looked on the internet - nada

and this stickered columbus tubing with a dotted line is also new to me.

no doubt having been repainted - the cinelli logos look nearly to new

what is this frame ? bottom bracket is also only engraved with numbers

what do the "cognoscenti" say ?

sorry for poor pics taken with my blackberry

Absolutely not a Cinelli. The tubing looks like Excel tubing because of the "design". It was in fact very high quality tubing. I would guess that is of either French or British manufacture. Check out the width of the BB shell and the marking on the BB cups.

Hi
Could not check if the BB is french or "english" yet :?
but
as you mentionned Excell tubing, I have tried to see other frames pics on the net with such a "dotted" tube but can't find any ?
any hint to confirm that ?

Somebody certainly made quite an effort to create this forgery, even affixing a repop headbadge. But the most perplexing question is, Why? It looks like a very well made frame and certainly would be worth more as a genuine "whatever it was" than as a counterfeit Cinelli.

another amateur gave me this link

it is indeed excelle tubing from what is called mexico set

"Haral was a builder of very high quality frames of all types, based in La Motte-Servolex in the Haute Savoie region They linked up with Isidoro Rezze, the owner of EXCELL tubes to build a large range of top-end frames with this series.
The frames illustrated are built from the Mexico I and Mexico II sets that were characterised by the slightly curved seat and top-tubes.. The Mexico I series had four lines of "beading" pressed into the tubes that resembled long lines of interlinked small circles..This feature was known as "perle " ( or pearled) It can just be seen on the green frame. On a frame finished with chrome plate covered by a clear coloured varnish the effect was sparkling.
The tubes were used for standard road racing frames as well as low-profile ones."

could Cinelli have used this same tubing set ???

Absolutely not! Don't forget that Cinelli is owned by teh same family that owns Columbus tubing, so why would anybody even entertain to use the tubing made by a competitor.
