What are the differences? Orange content!

Well you kind of need a cable stop to use cantilevers, so it cannot be an early frame (unless someone has taken a grinder to it ;)). I do not know when they must have stopped putting them on.

Decipher the number and post it here and send Orange it, if they can figure it out good luck. It cannot hurt to try.

They say they do not have record of their old bike number, but it does not mean they do no what type it's for, just no specifics.

I am no Orange expert.

Best bet it to trawl through the catalogues

It is circa 1992 by the looks of it. Definetly an early one, shame someone has removed the brake guide but not the end of the world. It seems to shout clockwork to me - chainstay bridge, front mech cable guide, the lug at the top of the seat tube, but I haven't seen that many early presitiges.. .. I'd get in touch with orange and give them the serial number, or strip it down and weigh it and ask CK to weigh his. If yours is significantly lighter it will most probably be a prestige.

i've done that and they replied they do not keep track of so older bikes but that it seems it could be a clockwork...i don;t like the words "it seems", i want to know for sure

The amount of threads on old Oranges is unreal. Come to conclusion it is damn hard to ID any old orange as so much variability through the years/models. Not helped by Orange doing resprays and decals so that can chage too.

All a bit of a lottery really!

Who know's?

If i hadn't looked at Cannondalekings bike I would never have started this thread. I'd be sat here happy in the the knowledge that i'd managed to acquire a frame even better than the one I really wanted(which was a Clockwork)but you know what they say about a little knowledge! So as far as i'm concerned its a 92/93 Prestige and until I sell it and have to prove as much that will do for me.
:D

It's definitely fairly old, at least as old as 1991 I think, and could be older. Although one thing that makes it look later is that I think the fork is a lot later than the frame - it's the same as the one on my 95 Clockwork (as is the respray). I think the height of the top tube above the junction with the seatstay is what contrasts it even from 92 and certainly from later.

The bike in this photo looks similar. It looks as though it has original paint and I labelled it a 1991 Clockwork because that's what its owner thought it was, but then owners don't always know for sure! And if you look in the 91 brochure (in the Archive), it looks quite like the Prestige in that, but funnily enough the Clockwork in the 91 brochure is a different shape!

If anything the bike below looks to have slightly fatter tubes than yours, and I can't quite be sure from your photo whether your bike has the same triangular hole in the dropout. Also the shape of the external butting at the top of the seatpost seems to differ.

All that and I don't know really. I think it'a a c1990 frame with a 95ish fork, but can't tell whether it's a Clockwork or a Prestige.

I would say that my frame is the same as the one in the picture apart from the rear brake cable stop(mine doesn't have one). The forks on mine are later P7 ones and were bought because they are nearer the frames age then any P2's I could afford at the time. Looks better in orange doesn't it,I feel a respray coming on!
Thanks for all the input, any further info gratefully recieved.

defo not a prestige mate had one from the 92 range from ed edwards last year and the cable stops and bridge are screaming 92 clockwork   sorry

that prestige does look ALOT!! like my '92 prestige which ive known from new (except mine has the brake cable stop) unfortunatly mine doesnt look that good at the min.

i was gifted mine by my mums old boyfriend at the tender age of 13 and ragged it too death (doesnt look nice but its still sound)

but anyway that frame does look identicle to mine except for the cable stops

I don't think Grannygrinder's bike can be a 92, either Prestige or Clockwork, as the 92s had the top tube almost at the same level as the top of the seatstay, see below. The shape of Grannygrinder's bike is 91 or earlier.
