I am amazed at all the bitching about this.

Though I am far left of the current government, I think it is mad to hand out money to people who plainly do not need it.

All our CB was invested for our kids' future; same as my parents' did.

It is immoral to me to take money that you just don't need, when others have a real need for help.

The economically deprived did not get there by laziness, and they are as entitled to have kids as anyone else, in fact it is vital to retain our society's diversity.

The system in Denmark is much better than ours, it is largely based on ours, and if we just went a bit further with taxation ours could be as good.

:)

+1

Personally I think households who bring in either singlularly or collectively 40k plus should bloody well pay for their kidsthemselves!

So a couple who do go out to work and earn the national average wage each (~£24k), probably have kids for which childcare needs paying etc should not benefit in a similar way as someone who hasn't worked for years and lives on benefits?

I'm definitely not in that category and do quite well thankyouverymuch (worked for it all mind) living mortgage free in a small house (that's not worth a great deal). My wife is the same; we don't need the CB per se but we invest it all so that my nipper can choose to go to university if he wishes, potentially for the greater good of the country and doesn't have to pile himself up with debt doing so. We don't need to do it but we are going with the current system. Who wouldn't?

I definitely am however seeing a problem like has been said before in this thread about this single wage child benefit removal rather than the joint one. Not fair or just. £44k against £87.9k? Make it combined or not at all.

I think you will see it happening that pay increases/whatever will align with this eventually so that there will be a growing top-load on this £44k value until the earner can get over the cut off value by enough of an amount to offset the CB lost. It happens with the upper rate of tax at £37,400 so I wouldn't be surprised to see it with this as well.

Still it does mean that thatcherite Cameron and his cronies are biting off the very hand that fed them in the general election. Will middle England feel the same in four and a half years time if this carries on? There's only so long that they can blame the previous government for what they are doing now. One wonders what George Osborne would have done if the economic crisis had happened on his watch. Probably a similar thing seeing as he is as minted as the rest of his cabinet mates and his party backers. When it's all over for him he'll become an 'advisor' to some bank just to keep his eye in and no doubt reap the rewards of being another one the true crooks in all this.

Why does everyone bash the tories for being rich?!!? It's just stupid inverted snobbery, are you jealous?

I don't recall any of the last Labour government needing income support?????!!!!!!

I'd also much prefer someone WITH money to look after MY money.

Party backers? - Oh yes, Labour have party backers, they're people like Bob Crow and other union leaders who want to completely ruin everybody's lives for no valid reason!!! They kept very quiet when Labour were f**king the country up, now there is some pain to be felt they're adding to it!!!! And with SIX FIGURE SALARIES TOO!!!!!

Becoming an advisor? - I hear Tony Blair is doing quite well thankyouverymuch

I'm not saying that - the words I used in my post were "what would George Osborne had done if it had happened on his watch?" I reckon not much else from what happened under new labour but it doesn't stop cameron et al from blaming everything on the previous government because it is easy to do so.

Yes, every party has its backers, even the Monster Raving Loony Party. My point is that you can't say you're doing something new when it has all happened in the past.

Agreed - neither the last government nor this one need income support because they have a job.... Lots of them did "supplement" their income though....

Oh, and Tony Blair? Well we don't need to talk about him do we? Lap dog to the yanks, now smarming his way around the world, one thing I can agree with you on.

Oh yeah BTW - I do quite well thankyouverymuch by doing an engineering apprenticeship, working for a dozen or so years, getting made redundant and using the redundancy money to fund myself through university. Now 10 years into my second career (also as an engineer but a clean hands one) I'm finally reaping the rewards of working hard for things in my way. I get a reasonable wage (though under this £44k threshold that I think is so unfair when we are talking about this CB fiasco) and am happy with my 'lot'. I do quite well thankyouverymuch....
