Outside my sisters flat in edinburgh there was one of those in "Camel" livery, I loved it but the wife didn't which is a shame. I would consider a T3 but it would need to impress the wife.

That's weird, really weird,

as the last three I have seen on the motorway have actually been on fire, it's got to the point that whenever me and the missus see one on the motorway now, we recount the few that have been up in flames recently.... That's 100% put me off buying one - forever.

On a positive note, I saw one about 10miles from my home the other day and it was on a '10' plate so obviously painstakingly put together with all new parts and then registered as a new car - mucho respect....... 8)

Ah, I didn't realise,

Saying that tho, it looked like a splittie, and with more windows than a greenhouse showroom.

Other than a friend of a friend having one with a 911 engine wedged in it, a bucket seat and a 'chipped' gas stove   I know nothing about them.

TK - be prepared to pay a small fortune for a good un.

I have a '78 Bay which we were lucky to get in VGC 20 years ago, unfortunately now being subjected to the welding gear :D

Just like the orange one parked close to our "workstation" at 10UTB. Did you see it - spoke to the guy and he'd brought it over from Australia 10 years ago - minter in totally unrestored original condition - i'sd say he could get approaching £8 - 10k for that one

You can buy a dog cheaply (under £1000) but bodywork/chassis is a killer if tinworm has got hold. Best to save and get a solid one IMHO unless you are a proficient welder, or are able to blackmail one.

Splitties are really serious money - wouldn't bother unless you want to impress the crowd at Newquay :D and yes they are cramped.

There's a guy at Inveraray specialises in the mid 80s vans (the square ones) - fixes, refurbs and sells them. I can pop in and see what's available if you want. Also a couple of specialists near Edinburgh and Lanark including the very excellent http://www.zen68566.zen.co.uk/

Also http://www.justkampers.com/ is good for general info and goodies.

We bought our camper as the dog (neurotic border collie) couldn't handle tents

Apart from chassis/body issues, the mechanicals are a piece of p1$$ - and spares/upgrades are abundant.

Buy "How to keep your Volkswagen alive" by John Muir. Great stuff.

Oh - and the exploding VW Camper scenario is avoidable by carefully placed lockwires on the fuel lines

They still make 'em in Brazil - Danbury Conversions (UK) will sell you a brand new one for £20k plus depending on spec :P
