VW Campers

I really like the T25's in the right colour they can look quite retro, I think they are coming into their own and can only appreciate in value now.

engine fires are usually caused by poor maintenance so dont be put off, just replace the fuel lines.

i had an engine fire in my cabrio beetle (rip) caused by using the clear plastic tubing rather than rubber.

since the fire i have told loads of people not to use ot. always amazes me the number of engines you see without clips on the fuel lines.

t25's can be made to look great very easily. a mild drop in the suspension and some tasty wheels and they look a million times better.

if you get one and want some alloys then pm me - it is a minefield out there!

t4's are great, mainly because the engine is in the front so get more space in the back

A T25 is nearly a foot longer inside than a T4. Most rear-engine camper interiors are partially on top of the engine, and the front seats are right at the very front, so there's more space inside the older ones even though they're slightly shorter overall. Just don't drive into anything ;-)

Splits and bays are both firmly in the "enthusiast" bracket now - you've got to want to tinker/fettle. A nice late-model T25 Westfalia would do the trick. Get an LHD import to save money, although you're probably still looking at five figures. We couldn't afford one of those, but we've got this:

:-)

TK is it your current cars foibles thats keeping you away from the T5 or have you heard some horror stories? I'm due to replace my car later in the year and a T5 was on the cards.

Basically I was told to get rid of my current car by my garage - at 65000 miles this is apparently when things start to get very expensive for recent VWs...

I have heard issues with electrics and traction control (there isn't a recall but they "help you with the cost of parts" as it is known issue).

Mine currently sounds like the 6speed gearbox is on it's way out - I'd hate to price one of those. If it is only the clutch it will be the best part of a grand, but my garage reckons it is the gearbox.

VW customer service is absolute pish (on my side of the country at least). None of the small issues I had with the car when new was resolved, and I was even told by a manager that I was lying about one of his sales reps with regard to warranties.

I really miss my Saab but I fancy a Camper and a very small car to go with it next.
I switched to another VW dealer and it didn't get better - so I ended up back at my busy local garage - Had enough basically and never want to deal with them again.

65,000miles? Thats barely run in...

But I suppose if you've had grief, nothing will dissuade you.

I really fancy a camper after this thread.

everything I've read, (though not much and probably off here ) was pointing to the T5 as being reliable. But this was in comparison to the Vito.
