Use old rotor with new caliper?

Hi all,

Sorry for the stupid question of the day but I have an old hope hub with a 6 bolt (IS) 180mm home mono mini rotor on it.

I would like to know if I can run this rotor with a new deore M6000 caliper? (So... the questions half retro right!?).

I've not really got much experience with discs... so if someone can enlighten me I'd be most grateful!

Some rotors won't work with some calipers due to the location of the floating rivet join. I know from experience that hope floating rotors and formula calipers don't mix, not sure about shimano and hope though.

Only way is to try it, most rotors are similar thickness although the issue with Hope floating rotors is with the spider. Investors a number of 160mm rotors and have just enhanced the braking on a bike with Avid callipers after I fitted a Tektro rotor which seems to big thicker enough to alter the bite point.
Remember it will also be affected by what mount you use and whether there’s any adjustments that can be made with ovalised mount holes.

The rotor is a solid piece - no rivets or spider. I checked the thickness of the disc itself and it appears it is fine as per the m6000 caliper min & max.
It does have a very narrow braking track though - is this something that could be an issue? I see disc rotors vary greatly in this way... are calipers designed for a particular width of braking track?

Almost certainly yes.
I've run it with no issues.
(Depending on exactly how old a hope disc it is!)
