Univega Boralyn

Re:

These got great reviews BITD, especially in relationship to their very reasonable cost; which is not reflected in the asking price of this example unfortunately

Someone is selling a full bike on FB marketplace for £225

Can you post the link to that bike please? I might be o interested in one at a more realistic price.

Re:

I don't think the Boralyn and the Boralite are the same frames.

They might be, but something in the back of my head says the Boralyn was all bells and whistles mega pricey, the Boralite was a lower frame at a lower price point. I might be wrong, I know they were both MMC of sorts, but that's how I remember it...

Think you might be right about that BB.

Still, I think this is a fair price for a Boralite B4C, decent lightweight frame and XT/Mavic.

I take it the seller is a member on here then?

Re:

By the looks of things they may have just changed names between 94 and 95. Some reports state the Boralite might actually have been a better frame but I doubt that. Probably just a change of name for marketing reasons...like the Mk1 dynatechs that were Raleigh branded or Saracen limited editions. There aren't really better types of the same type of MMC unless one used MMC for the stays too but again doubtful. Specialised only used MMC for the main frame tubes as manipulation of MMC is extremely hard. Definitely a good buy at £200....not at $3000! Ha ha! In fact the first search for Boralyn brings up a broken frame on MTBR!
