Ungrateful Bar**ards.

Back in 1990 i was saving for a low end claud butler. My parents helped me along and put my cash with theirs and bought me a massive falcon pathfinder.

I was gratefull as it got me on a mountain bike but i was a bit miffed. They were concerned i was going to waste 300 quid on a fad.

OOOooooo, lah-de-dah, ain't we posh!
We used to dream about savin' oop for one ourselves........... had to get oop at two in the mornin' to mine ore and then smelt the iron before we could even...........etc......... :P

Nearly fell over laughing at that!

So you did not get pocket money / do a paper round / go and wash peoples cars / cut your grandparents grass / clear snow from old peoples pathways etc. etc. :?: This is called using your initiative  It seems to be quite rare nowadays

P.s did you live in the north then
We didn't get pocket money, weren't allowed paper rounds or other gainful chores.. hence why we were bought 'stuff'

Dad was a Northerner (Thornaby iirc)...

Confused.. Sorry  Just thought it was funny!

I worked in a restaurant for a whole summer at £2 an hour to pay for my GT Backwoods, had to save like mad to pay for it and it was an absolutely amazing day when I got it. Its a bazillion times better saving yourself which is what the kids are missing out on these days (some anyway).

I know northeners are tight but inflicting that on you children (the "your not earning" bug) Is crap. Why would you not let your children try and better their selves :?: I was pulling fishing nets out of the water when I was fourteen on my grandads fishing boat in the middle of winter and it was character building I tell you :P Eight hours work including gutting fish for a lousy tenner but it allowed me to buy my titec titanium bars and beserker kti which I still have  8)

The old fella wasn't a tight-fisted get - far from it.. he had to slog his guts out as a kid and didn't want us to do the same.

That Carlton was over £300 iirc. . would've been late 70's I think. .

nope, was lucky there, hit 13, and wanteda mountain bike, parents matched me £ for £ upto 200 quid, i saw a GT Outpost at 250, saved up the rest, so luckily did have the same fate as my mates with surprise bso.

Reminds me of that Python sketch

"I look up at him because he is upper class but I look down at him because he is lower class"  You mean that one :?:

and i bet your kids are like mine
lazy self serving bastards

my parents ,despite the bloke across the road being a raliegh salesman
bought "me" a dawes kingpin ,as my mother thought she would use it
i had it for one evening and the mudguards had fallen off (honestly)
the rack was in the same state ,but i thought i had better make the effort yo bring it home
i really wanted a chopper .but that wasn't a proper bike according to my dad ,and unsafe according to my mum

however the old dawes turned out to be a good bike with a few mods
