Tyre Trouble

Hi all,
Just looking for some help about my 1997 Specialized Rockhopper. I'm looking at buying some Maxxis DTH 26"x2.3" for the bike. I believe the rim size is 559-18. I'm not sure what this measurement means so will I be able to fit these tyres on and ride comfortably? (It'll only be a town bike so won't have a huge amount of strain put on tyres)
Many thanks,
Ben

Re:

As a simple answer.....yes, provided you have the frame clearance, they will fit. You have a standard mountain bike 26" rim there.

559 is the rims dimension in mm.....its confusing as 26" is the rim PLUS the tyre.

18mm is the width of the rim.

However, if your only using it as a commuter, then a narrower section ( than 2.3" you suggest), with less aggressive tread or possibly a central road band will be easier to pedal and smoother on the road.

There is everything from 1" slicks to 2.5" mud pluggers.....and everthing inbetween that will fit on those rims.

Best of luck.
