Two questions for the LTS men and maybe modern riders too?

oh yes, forgot to mention, why the sudden interests in LTS'?
Well when your childhood dream bike pops up for sale less than 2 miles from your house, it is very hard to resist!

Does mean tho the kona and lots of other stuff has to go!

very nice, do you remember how much travel you had?

figured out there is basically a reversaible delrin bearing that can be swtiched between two positions, for the sts 1, sts 2 and lts 1 this gave between 3.75" and 4.75"s of travel, im not sure what is was for the DH models.

have also confirmed that the 97 lts/sts had ride height adjust via its trunnion mount

"the trunnion moint is a threaded coller in which the shock is threaded into, this allows the rider to slect his or her ride height and, in addition, can affect the total geometric attitude of the bicycle in terms of head tube angles, seat tueb angles and bb height, simply grasp the top cylinder of the shock and turn it. as ou turn the shock it will thread itself up or down the collar, as more of the brown upper cylinder of the shock becomes exposed, the bike lowers itself which reduced the head and seat tube angles'

I tried that but it didnt seem to do anything??

It was 5" travel which is what prompted the question in the first place about if it was worth the hassle of of trying to get hold of a D/H frame as they only have 5" too

right ive got you,

in my opinion no, things were moving so fast back then that one years full on dh bike was next years all rounder, i think in basic performance they are very similar. the rear of the bike is near identical.

as we have found out they both have similar (adjustable) travel, both are (supposed to be) ride height adjustable, although the DH frame is beefed up around the seatube area, more of a sloping top tube, and with the top link further up the seat tube, has slightly slacker angles on standard settings.

I will take that back, I had brought my dream stunning LTS drove 260 miles for it and rode it but it was just too damn tall for me!! Then reading the manual I learned about the trunnion mount adjustments so I hoped doing that would lower the bike by about 3" !! but it didnt!!

Ive been looking at your DH, sorry to disappoint but im 100% certain yours is a 1997 model, the 1996 had ti curved links and only one bend in the seatpost, yours had two bends and the alu links with trunion fitting for the shock!

I had mine down as a 96 due to the first few numbers on the frame number 01096, i thought this was january 96 ?

No need to appologise, dont mind at all if i'm proved wrong

BTW about the adjustable travel, the two bushes at the top of the shock on the trunion mount are refered to as travel chips, the hole is offset, travel is determined by which way the hole is (to the front or the rear), the height of the bike is adjusted by turning the whole body of the shock through the trunion, spring preload is set by the seperate collar under the trunion mount, this is how i've set mine up anyway.
