Trainer Nerdism

 comon, air epics didn't come out till '84...

the retro isn't quite as fab as the original, oh well...

and one of my all time favs (ran 100's of miles in the original, then biked in them, now the crumble in the box, the retro being a piss poor version with no fron air bag and a mini rear one) the 180:

oh, you're on message. 8)

You are right I am sure, 84 makes sense, 1st year of secondary school.

Agree, the re-issue's 'heel tab' is far too big compared with the original. Epics were so subtly and tasteful. Even the scotchlite heel was subtle.

I loved the UK AIr 180 advert. Where the camera flowed through an alien planet surface, only to flip '180' degrees and reveal it was the underside of the outsole of the shoe.

Not quite as good though as the...

'You've seen me run before, but never in my Hurache's" ad.

neveer saw those adds :( being in oz and all we were lucky to get the shoes let alone the adds, the 180 was delayed 6 months, man i was jumping to get them on my feet!! the retro is lame in comparison...

discovered the other day the sole is departing the upper on one shoe :(

I was delighted when the epic made a return, got them, discovered that they "look" like the original, but the upper is much thinner suede, the midsole is very thin, and i believe only an air bag in the heel, instead of full length, and the medial support is there only as a token...

love my air safaris though, thats a good retro...

there is no question they are made much worse now. My hurraches have just given up the ghost and have been worn all the time since 91! (got them in germany a while before they came out here and they even had a better nike air tag on the tongue rather than that rubbish rubber circle logo). But my swift triax from the late nineties and some pegasus i had not that long ago all
fell apart. I have three bits of triax outsole under my desk at the mo as they keep falling off (they're slippers now).

One shoe i have never seen again, that I had in 85, was a Pegasus GX, but not just silver nylon upper, they had a patterned almost space suit like grey and silver gore tex like material.

Re-issues just have the nylon. all pics i can find do too.

Now, we're getting into the minutiae of trainer nerdism.

.

I had some lovely Nike escape walking shoes in about 89/90 poss 91?
All black with a blue trim, can't find a pic anywhere :(
Any ideas where to look?

oddly enough these are my current favourites! the NB 2002, incredibly comfy, low key looks (and stupid expensive :) )

That's because they're still made in their factory in Boston, MA, not by an 8 year old girl in a sweatshop in Asia.

haha beat me to it, anyway nikes are still incredibly comfy, but i don't like paying 100 quid for a pair of shoes that isn't going to last properly.

My shoe life went : reebok, mizuno, nike for about ten years, adidas and now i only buy proper running trainers... asics, new balance etc.
