Top pull derailleur cable

But if your cable stop is on at an angle, the angle of the cable is OK.
Both my top pull frames had cable stops presumably intended for top swing mechs, but as they
made top pull bottom swing mechs, I am guessing there are frames with stops at a suitable angle.

I think the cable is supposed to go around the black pivot bit rather than direct to the cable clamp.
That's for bottom pull usage, in the dual-pull mechs.
You are right, must have had my head on backwards when I looked at the pics.

I think the problem is that whike the multi-mount mechs allow for both top and bottom pull routing, they are a bit of a compromise. A dedicated top pull mech should allow for a better cable run as it isn't trying to be one size fits all.

A few pics below of a few different top pull mechs and how they look on a few of my builds. None have the clean, straight cable run you'd want in an ideal world, but they are xtr m953, xtr m970 and xt m780.

None are as aggressive as yours looks from the pics, 2 of the 3 are retro frames with more modern than originally equipped with mechs. The m970 is probably the best of the bunch angle wise.
