Cheers, if they ever had to go the two Marins would be the keepers, especially love the team issue 8)

I am curious, why do so many people want a Cunningham? Is it just because they are deemed desirable and so by default make into top ten lists??

I know there are some ultra rare British or European bikes that are held in the same level of esteem on the other side of the pond, but since they weren't popular here when I cut my MTB teeth they don't make it into my top 10, though I'm sure they are fine bikes. I have to imagine that Cunninghams were not very common over there, nor were they probably well known either. So why do people want them??

For me, I had the chance to get one and rode it and got to like it. So, when one better suited to me came up I made a play and now I have one that's perfect for me. But that's based on experience and not just a blind desire.

So???

Fair point there - probably the straight rarity/demand for one drives the desirability ... standard reasons. I do love the look of the early Cunningham Drops. It be neat to own one.

I am down to a handful I still want.

In no order ...
First Year (1990?) Red Specialized M2, Suntour, disc drive - Ned-ed out.
Cunningham Drop
Mountain Goat - Check
Fat Chance Yo Eddy - Check

Fillet Brazed Brodie Romax
MC2 Klein Adroit - Check (sorta)
Mantis Flying V - Check
Cameron - Check

Yeti Ultimate or FRO (prefer a FRO that i can ride)
Something Else ;)

I'd have thought it obvious why a Cunningham would be on many peoples lists.
Just think about what is in the public domain about Charlie, his influence in MTBing and his bikes and there are your reasons. The fact that they are reasonably scarce, especially over here, just means many have not had the opportunity to own one and rule it out.

Sure, I understand. But wanting something just because everyone wants it is not the way I 'try' to approach things. I may want to try something if everyone is raving about it, but it's just interesting that they come up in so many people's top ten list while probably very few have ever even seen one. So, maybe it shouldn't be a surprise, I want a McLaren F1 and I've ever been near one and obviously haven't driven it. Maybe it's a bit like that.

Al, your brain always hurts...

If I were to have such a list [of course I do, we all do] limited to only 10, I think it would consist of bikes I had a hope of realistically acquiring - so out with the Tomac reps, Toads, etc and in with the slightly more mainstream:

Miyata Elevation 12,000’ [’93 or ’94, or why not both whilst the others are acquired]
1990 Miyata RidgeRunner Team
K-M equivalent of the above
Rocky Mountain Ti-Bolt
Rigid DOGS
1993 Bonty Racelite
1994 Bonty Racelite [purely for stupid, unjustifiable ‘completion’ reasons with the '93 and other ORs I have]
Bonty TiLite
Kestrel MXZ [possible place holder to replace with Adroit, or Salsa JMC replica]
Trimble Inverse-4 [possible place holder to replace with 1991 San An Suspenders + disc, or Formula One]

1994 Specialized FSR Team [to replace my ’95 FSR Team - purely on aesthetic grounds - so not counting as part of ‘The Ten’]

Specialized Ultimate [would replace directly with my ’91 Epic, so again not counting as part of 10]

Zinn 753 or disc [a ‘just because’ choice really, and would probs be a ‘one-in / one-out’ with my Centaur so, you guessed it, not counted]

Understanding this is 'right now' I’ll need to keep this list open for the next few years as I’m also partial to an early Merlin, a FAT, a DEAN, a...

Now my brain hurts too...
