Today's Ride

well that sucked
24 miles all in, was gonna be shorter but i had to double back after crashing, riding many miles away to realize my light broke off, and then having to go back to where i crashed to find it

found it

couldve been worse, just gonna be sore for a bit
anywhere else on this run wouldve been better to crash, but thats an abandoned road in the woods, crashing there means theres asphalt underneath like a quarter inch of leaves and sticks

all around kind of a miserable ride tbh, all of my pictures i took on the floppy disk camera are MIA because all the floppies in my backpack got damaged when i crashed
and then none of the pictures i took with the digital camera are any good because the lighting was off and that camera sucks at taking a picture in high contrast

and its not like i was having any fun before crashing either, because my entire ride there and back was basically this

yeah lemme just wade through my local bike path
its like 8 miles of this btw, sometimes you can ride around the edges, sometimes you cant

If you ain't bleedin' you ain't trying, as my soccer coach used to say.

Poor monmouth, my home town, is under water, and half the shops have been trashed by flooding, but my colleagues and I went to the mendips and rode around on mountain bikes, it was dry-in places.

Minty was the only classic piece really. 20251116_194658.webp

Blimey that’s grim.
Are they like that because of an unusual storm or have they just been designed badly?
Good that you found your light though…
Hope your aches and pains are easing

Rode through my flooded Town😪 to see what was open.

(News photo from yesterday)

The greengrocer was delighted to have a customer,
IMG_20251117_105537.webp the only shop open on that side of the street, helped by no stock near the ground, a concrete floor and a killer work ethic.

The car park by the playing fields was an inch of slimy mud everywhere IMG_20251117_110926.webp
but everyone was positive and getting on with sorting it out.
Piles of ruined furniture, appliances and carpets outside every door☹

Well ,on the road just after 8.
First stop was involving having a echo gram .
I discovered 3 things whilst in the basement of the local hospital.
I. Theere was no echo no matter how much I shouted.
2 . Plainly as I had woken up sunny side up this morning my pump was still working, after a fashion anway.
3 I wasn't going to have kittens.

Following a cuppa I went out and continued my excursion.

Ahh yes ....pictures... 20251117_103130.webp 20251117_103150.webp 20251117_110409.webp 20251117_111257.webp 20251117_110833.webp 20251117_111915.webp 20251117_121810.webp

At the end ,all in lovely Winter sun I was alive and kicking.
Every ride needs a tune.

Bloody cold one today. Plan was to ride and think about a few things. Ended up doing a load of hill climbing instead. But the important thing is, I felt good doing it. I haven't felt good riding for a long time so hopefully overcoming my demons.

Poor maintenance, so the entire trail is like 15ish miles start to end, the part that the national park owns they've paved and installed drainage and such.
The rest of it is owned by the utility company, as its all land underneath main power lines. They have no interest in maintaining it at all, as far as theyre concerned the trail is just what it is.
And since the whole area is in a bog it floods, and the dips in the gravel road which the trail is made of become ponds.
Its dry in the summer and early fall, as soon as it rains and the area is saturated i mean, thats basically the water table there. Its just gonna be like that.
