Today's Ride

it was nice and shinny, and surprisingly warm (22°C) today, so it would have been too rude not to go riding. I was a bit late at 2:00 pm to start, so the ride was badged by ST as 'fastest time on this route' at 42kms/2:50hrs 🤣 , which also means only one pic was shot.

Weird country that this is, when I last logged a ride it was freezing cold and wet; today, four or five days later, it's calm, sunny and 26C. I set out on the Jake for a 40km loop with about 440m (1,440 ft) climbing, on a mixture of metalled and gravel roads. Had to abort a run yesterday due to a twinging knee, so it was great to find pedalling no problem. Sunscreen definitely required!

Bright but chilly spin this afternoon, taking in a couple of East Sussex's famous hill climbs - Firle Beacon and Bo-peep.
Great to get out.View attachment 1015076View attachment 1015077View attachment 1015078View attachment 1015079View attachment 1015080
Hey my old stamping ground - gorgeous light - BIG HILL - we bailed off here midwinter many times, after fighting East wind and driving rain/hail/sleet

And we often lost our moral compass and became car worriers on the way down; much faster to be on a bike than in a car.....

For 'Today's Ride' I am going to time travel forwards to May next year....and hopefully my photos and text will be of the Jura. Not Jura (island) but THE Jura...that amazing set of huge hills which aspire to be mountains, and stretch 360 kms along the Swiss-French border.

I am asking for advice. I have driven through the Jura over 200 times. It's the last bit of France before we get to friends and family in switzerland and the first bit we drive through rushing back. We have stopped to rest, have coffee, eat, and sit on the grass marvelling at the hills. But we have never stopped to ride. This May I want to get an Air BnB base in Metablief, and ride. Ride the many forest tracks, ride the farm access roads, ride the singletrack.

Anyone with any experience or advice?
