Today's Ride

Yesterday's ride. My last of this long trip. I parted with Fiona in Frankfurt, took the train to Trier and decided to ride from there to Sedan. I decided to hand navigation over to Google, suggesting cycle route and quiet roads. The results were interesting - it took me on a minutely wiggling almost straight line, with the result that it ploughed through almost every landscape/geographic feature.

I went out of Trier on the river path beside the Mosel, on beautiful cycle lanes in Luxembourg, through a 2km long sandpit, across genuine pavé, through forests, along actual rock-strewn (much bigger than gravel) tracks, into overgrown hedgerows and through what seemed to be a storm drain. Anyway, nearly 100 miles later I found myself in Sedan, having travelled through Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium and France - all into another exhausting headwind. Un oeuf.

Home today by train and ferry. Looking forward to getting back.

Out for a ride today on the South Downs Way and this encampment has sprung up. Rumour has it that it is a containment camp for errant cyclists. :)

I continued down my favourite little singletrack stretch between the trees

And actually entered the "camp" which is the site of the Boomtown Festival starting in a couple of weeks. I'm helping out on the "reparium" fixing broken trolleys and tents for the festival goers so I need to sign in for setting up. All sorted now only need to keep this wristband on for the next two weeks!

After the climb up to the festival site it's a nice quick downhill section home for a bit of therapeutic bike maintenance. The Stumpy is not well.

I've been left all alone tonight, wife in London, daughter in Brussels and son in Idaho, just me and the dog at home. IMG_3386.webp

So I fed the dog and cooked myself a pasta bolognese, I searched for a decent wine to go with it, usually her indoors just fills the fridge with rose and champagne so I wasn't hopeful, but I got lucky...

A cheeky primitivo, just what the doctor ordered!

So after half a bottle the evening looked very pleasant and a quick ride around the block beckoned and after bolognese and primitivo it could only mean one bike.

The Bianchi
A quick jaunt into town folllowed with the obligatory grafitti stop ( the Romans invented it)
IMG_3395.webp

Tried to get a shot of the viaduct (another Roman invetion.) It's behind those trees...honest. I blame the wine.

Then a quick bit of fettling at the very handy bike service stop.

And the call to be made, should it be Eastbourne or Winchester tonight!
