Today's Ride

Nice! I've got the old Smoke and Dart combo on most of my Breezers, Cult Vans on the Ignaz, and some Maxxis Crossmark on my mini Storm
Smokes and Darts are already in the shed in black and tanwall, not sure wich ones I like better.
I used Crossmarks on a Cannondale not long ago and the felt quite good.

Not easy picking tyres 🤦‍♂️

Took off at lunchtime on a quick 20-k ride -- the sky clear and there was very little wind, so had to take advantage. I took the '98 Explosif, on which I'd recently replaced the Avid V-brakes with XTR -- why keep them in a drawer when there's a deserving bike to put them on?

It was a pretty uneventful ride: the gravel road portion was nice and dry, but down in the valley there was still lots of mud and standing water after recent rain. Was gratified to get a PB on a challenging Strava segment coming home, although can't see how new brakes would help with that!

On the long downhill home the rear wheel developed a slight rub on the new brakes which was annoying. Inspection revealed that the wheel had gone slightly out of true, so a little fiddling was needed to cure the rub. Will need to replace that wheel though -- it's an old Crossride (with the yellow hub) which I hope can be straightened.

Spoke to Winston about frame measurements this morning . He referenced this one . I've been playing on the Condor and the Dawes a lot recently so I thought I'd better rattle the Varonha before I let him use it as a template .
It's ace , as are some of the trees in town , unfortunately buildings cost more to maintain than trees .

Just a short ride today, from Lewes to Newhaven. Tomorrow the ten day flash tour of Europe starts. Dieppe to Geneva, then up to Andermatt and on to the Rhine cycle route to Rotterdam (stopping in Frankfurt along the way to meet my wife who is going to a conference there).
