Today's Ride

Yesterdays mess about after work with Carnbike. Practicing all kinds of stuff rather than a ride. Whilst I waited for him, I scooted around Levant mine as I usually blast through in either direction.

No thanks. Absolutely ridiculous what folks were put through working here.

But it looks oh so pretty today. Try and imagine the building in front with a big old roof, and a mechanical arm like contraption heading towards us to the concrete platform we're in. We'd be standing in a building with this arm moving up and down, powered by the steam boilers in the visible ruins, which is powering some crazy lifting mechanism (the arm) that the miners used to jump on and off, to descend up to 500 metres down, then walk on the shafts up to mile out to sea. The gate above is the entrance to that lifting area, and was the scene of a horrible accident.

Man vs. rock episode #875infinity. Rock won again. Flew up a rock feature and was so surprised I ejected for no good reason 🤣

Got a lovely lump there now and on my elbow. But that doesn't stop us eh? Back at it this morning. Stiff 15-20mph SW breeze, so fantastic for the tail, flippin' hard work for the head! Still, the conditions are perfect. As soon as the wind hits land, two climates collide and we get the cloud and mist. But get down on the coastal trails and it's glorious, hence the grey "hat" you can see here.

Stay tuned for last weeks round 5 of the SWXC series, short-course fun and games. Some quality pics 👌

Went for a 30 miler this morning, along the river Nene, into Salcey forest and back around.

It was a bit blustery and overcast when I left, but the sun soon burned through the chemtrails and the wind eased off before too long.

The first leg follows my daily commute, along the river, over the canal and into the industrial estate.

Love Salcey Forest, once you get a half mile or so away from the car park and cafe area you finally get a sense of solitude. Lots of fast windy single track, punctuated by peaceful clearings, nice spots to take a breather and wash some flapjack down with water.

Poppies out everywhere along the lanes.

Home's waiting about 2 miles beyond that bend, along with a fry up and well earned brew.
