The Golden Gate Bridge (between San Francisco and Marin County) was closed to vehicle traffic this weekend for the installation of a new movable concrete median barrier — to replace the old plastic pylon system. The east sidewalk remained open for bikes and pedestrians. This is apparently the longest closure in the bridge’s 77 year history.
I decided a road bike ride down to check out the unusual situation would be fun and interesting… and it was.
I took my newly converted to single-speed bike out for it's first attempt at my usual route yesterday.
It had been raining hard all night, and the wind was still really strong...I struggled!
I was glad I was out on my own so I could go at a pace that suited my tired legs.
I just about made it up the big climb out of Corfe, with just my own bloody-mindedness stopping me from walking one bit.
More rides needed!
