Off to watch the World Cup on Friday, but driving up and staying over on the Thursday with other half.

Anywhere good to eat in the vicinity of where we're staying - only the finest "Express by Holiday Inn" in Debdale Park...

Haven't spent time there for years, but it used to be a dump.

I would head out East and get a country pub.

I used to live literally 50 yards from your hotel. Look out the window, you'll see my back garden!

There's not much in the immediate vicinity but you have a few options...

If you like curry, go to Rusholme, Wilmslow Road - the world famous Curry Mile. AMAZING!

If you like pub food head down to Didsbury to The Didsbury (or, next door is a Loch Fyne if you're feeling flush - it's very good).

If you like exciting noodly things, try Fuzion in Fallowfield - fantastic VFM, we used to go there about once a fortnight!

If you like normal Nando/Chiquito/Frankie & Benny's type food, go out to the M60 and go up one junction to J23. On Ashton Court Retail park there are all the above, plus a Chinese buffet which I haven't tried.

Or, head into the middle of town - regular buses from Hyde Road, get a 201/203/204.

@dbmtb - Will the spannering be in in the centre of the velodrome track, or hidden away elsewhere?
