This mtb lark is painful

hey we all forgot the classic, chainring dragged up the back of the right calf & the classic over the bars, then lying there wondering where the front of your helmets gone (into a million pieces is the answer!  )

Someone once closed a gate whilst I had been out riding a trail and I returned delayed by a blowout to slam into it in the dark.... Still have the misshapen thigh muscle from that (and the completely destroyed Scott AT-4s for posterity)

Shoe buckle snapped and toes got pizza-rised as a result of nasty tree roots mashing my now bare foot

Broken nose caused by Oakleys  following face plant.

And the one that we all know here.... Damaged wallet contents caused by website called Retrobike

Never done the Collar Bone and good luck with your recovery.

Dislocated shoulder hurts rather a lot though and now has a habit of popping out at random.

Still might as well get hurt doing something we enjoy.

Lost most of my confidence after a crash in the mid-90s. Was heading down a rocky track trying to keep up with someone that had talent and realised I was in that no-mans-land of going too fast to control (for me) but not having ability to slow down safely. Choice was crash into wall to left of me or head off side of hill to right of me. Next thing I remember, someone had chosen the former and I was sat there with both wheels trashed, Pace fleece trashed, looking at my helmet that was a very sorry state wondering what might have been. Not injured, but scarred all the same.

Still way too nervy going downhill now, but discs and FS help a bit!

Its the worst feeling in the world, losing confidence. BITD, mid-90’s, I’d be jumping all over the place, crossed-up, jumping DOWN into bombholes, jumping OVER people out of bombholes, and then BANG smashed shoulder and collar bone……..confidence gone completely.

It’s also not helped by my then turning completely to road riding for the next god knows how many years and shying away from MTB’s.

So, now I’m back on the MTB I can’t do 80% of the tricks I used to, but hey, I can still ride the bike, still get from A to B, still bunny-hop, just not 5ft of air and styling it up!
