Why do bakers get to be special then? Eh? Why oh why oh why?

How about drop the off topic to another site www.retrobiketalkbullshit.co.uk and leave it un-moderated , Leave this site to talking bikes and get things back to what is was all about and used to be. Its ruining a wonderful site and seems to be snowballing drawing more time from the mods that I am sure they have better things to do with there time?

I'm not for the separate forum. Personally, I don't think off-topic should demand that much consideration or resource.

I agree the mods have enough on their hands, and this place should be more about bikes.

That said, an off-topic forum will get lots of subjects discussed. Here's a thought - how about people take a bit more responsibility for what they say? If people write provocative stuff, then accept they'll likely get some flak or challenges back.

That and not going whining to the mods every time being provocative or hubristic gets a similar bolshy response. As I said, previously, it nearly always is six of one and half a dozen of the other in these spats - people should just be a bit more robust and grown-up - if you're prepared to be controversial then be like a man and take the heat. And if that doesn't suit, then maybe people should be more thoughtful before they comment.

I'm still not getting why bakers should be special, though - damn them!

Another forum I use, an American forum is a hell hole compared to what has been going on on here, the result is heavy moderation and people being banned. So the old timers there employ self moderation and take the trouble to remind new or trollish users that when they joined the site they agreed to abide by the websites terms of Service which states whatever contrary to peoples actions, the result, three strikes and out, the American way.

But off topic is just that, off topic, if someone wishes to bring up something to discuss that is not bike or bike related, then it is off topic, the subjects that run are in the correct place. As to whether someone wants to participate in an ongoing thread, then that is up to them, but once in there make a mistake, an error of judgement or even that sneaky little quip everyone seems to enjoy making from time to time, be prepared for the result as not everyone sees things the way you do.

Now the mature thing to do is not to stoop to someone elses level by retaliating and so lowering the tone further, but if snotty remarks are left as they are without retaliating everyone will see the comments and there the offensive person causes themselves damage, they have themselves to blame for failing to moderate their own mood.

But the recent mood in off topic, well things are happening in this country that directly affects members of this website, is this not a place where other concerns can be aired and advised upon as well as bikes. I think as a balance things should be left as they are, but perhaps a warning to remind everyone that they digitaly signed or at least agreed to abide by the website's terms of service which could be reproduced as a sticky in the required forums.

We I take it are all adults here and as adults we should be respnsible for our actions, our own actions coming first and foremost, as there is no point chastising others if you are at any time guilty of the same yourself. To be anything other is to be a hypocrite

Very well put and extremely sound advice.

The off topic always ebbs and flows. Sometimes it can be left for months at a time, at others it needs almost constant attention (like now). Guess it's a combination of topics discussed and the personalities involved. Anyhow a little more self moderation and control would be appreciated..

I dont get the fuss.

There are tons of threads to talk Retro, and there is an off topic thread to talk come what may.

Iff people dont like/agree with what is said in off-topic, dont go in there.

Simples.

but it is not that simple though. because this is a forum if people don't like/ agree they post. that is not necissarily the cause of the arguments though, that is down to how people post.
